Productivity and Job Match


Many of us understand that a person's productivity is directly related to whether or not their job matches their strength. But what exactly are we talking about when it comes to having a job match their strengths? We use words like skills, knowledge, competencies, and abilities, but we are poor at determining where they actually reside.

Closely related to what we call strengths is our desire for what goal we want to achieve. One of my greatest desires is to get the task done as quickly as possible, and have fun doing it.
I don't necessarily have the goal of extreme precision, nor do I have an internal alarm that tells me to slow down. I believe I can get a task done very quickly, and not suffer the consequences from missing a detail here or there. I am good at execution and focusing on the big picture, and being creative at finding ways to accomplish the many goals and tasks I need to do for my job. I am simply speaking about my personality, or temperament. People are good at what they practice, and people practice what they like. We are born with our personalities, so we have a natural propensity towars certain behaviors, and we find ways to use those behaviors as often as possible because they are natural to us. I've had this pre-programming since birth. I automatically know how to use these strengths, and have practiced them my whole life, so I am good at them. These are my strengths.

If you are hiring manager, you get the general gist of what I'm trying to say, and may even have a couple of jobs in mind for me. But in our research, asking behavioral interview questions that derive such a simple conclusion does not predict whether I will be a top performer in the position you would hire me for. Sure, you can look at my resume to determine what skills I have learned, and what education and experience I have had, but it still doesn't predict it well enough.

The reason for this is two-fold: 1) although you understand what my strengths are, you don’t fully know the degree of my strengths. We measure people and their strengths, but also measure the degree to which they possess them, as well as compare them to the already-existing high performers in the company. 2) There are still many of my attributes that you could never discover by asking me questions. They are deeply hidden in my hard drive, my core-programming, and frankly, I couldn’t even tell you what they were off the top of my head.

That’s why you need a benchmarking tool that drills down into discovering those attributes, finding out the degree of the strength.

Finally, you need a process for discovering the hidden attributes in all of your top performers, and where the top performers are alike, as well as where they are not alike.

You need to know their strengths, the exact degree of their strengths, and which strengths most highly correlate with success in that particular job. You’ll never get there by asking questions. Let us help you!


Effective management is comprised of several key components, and is not easily achieved. Organizations need to recognize the traits associated with successful management, and then promote employees based on those traits. The highest achieving employees do not always make the best managers, but employees that naturally exude these 6 attributes are sure to be effective and successful in management roles.
